What to give a coffee lover for the New Year
If you are carefully choosing what to please a coffee lover with for the New Year, and not looking for a gift “for the sake of it”, then you have come to the right place. Several worthwhile ideas are in our material today.
Funnels and filters
You’re probably familiar with alternative ways to brew coffee. Have you heard about Chemex, Aeropress, and drip funnel (“pourover”), but haven’t tried it? It’s time to fix that.
The easiest way to get used to it is with a funnel. It is usually shaped like a “V” and may remind you of a cup. You need to put a paper filter in the funnel and add the grind (medium will do). Then slowly pour hot water from a special teapot with a long spout.
Funnels are made of plastic, glass and ceramics. The cost starts from 350 rubles. One of the most popular brands is Hario (Japan).
“Coffee Alarm Clock” Sensorwake
Sensorwake is a fun toy from France that was successfully funded through Kickstarter. This is – attention! – an aroma alarm clock.
Sensorwake will wake you up with the smell of espresso, croissant, chocolate, mint, toasted bread, etc. It’s all about the capsules with aromatherapy that are inserted into the device. The cartridge lasts for a month. If the smell of espresso doesn’t work, after three minutes you’ll hear a standard audio signal.
In its home country, Sensorwake costs €80. In Russian stores, it costs around 9,000 rubles.
Coffee machines
The sum of $200 for a gift does not scare you? Well, then take a closer look at coffee machines. We have dedicated a separate article to their differences .
A coffee machine is the dream of any coffee lover. Minimum effort – and a quality drink at the end. Who would refuse such a thing? The only stumbling block is the high prices for such devices.
Maintenance is also not as easy as it seems. In the ” Accessories ” section you will see water filters, cleaning agents (tablets, liquids, powders) for the hydro system, milk system, cappuccino maker, against scale and coffee oils.
Dishes
This section contains several ideas about dishes and all sorts of important little things.
- Keep Cup thermos mug (Australian brand). Made of durable glass, with a plastic rim and a lid with a valve. Looks much nicer than standard paper cups, plus you can take it on a walk, to the country or on a trip. Basic volumes: 227, 340 and 454 ml. Costs from 1100 rubles.
- Tamper. Needed to carefully compact the grind.
- Kruve Sifter sieves (Kruve is a Canadian manufacturer). They will help out if you are meticulous about grinding. You can take one sieve (from 1000 rubles), or a set (from 4000 rubles) and a bamboo stand for it.
- A mug with a pattern that changes/appears when heated. It is said about such mugs that they wake up with the owner.
- Spoons: long for a Turk, for cupping (tasting), measuring (sometimes it can also be used as a clamp for a bag of coffee – very practical!).
- Set “Berlin” with a thermos and a couple of mugs. In a fabric cover. For a picnic!
- Stencils for making fun designs on milk foam. Feel like a serious barista for a moment!
- Cup holders. For example, for a sofa or a bicycle.
- Cups made of borosilicate glass. This material is heat-resistant and durable, no wonder it is used to produce lenses and mirrors for telescopes. Compared to porcelain and ceramics, borosilicate glass keeps the drink hot longer.
Scales + timer
Coffee lovers are picky people. The Drip Scale from Hario, which combines the functions of a scale and a timer, will help you measure the grind down to tenths of a gram and calculate the time correctly. It costs 4,300–4,400 rubles. Models from other brands are cheaper.
Books about coffee
We definitely recommend James Hoffman’s encyclopedic work “The World Atlas of Coffee”. It is a real guide to varieties, countries and recipes. The Russian edition from “Palmira” last year stirred up Boomstarter. Instead of 100 thousand rubles, the organizers of the campaign managed to attract 1.54 million. The book was published in hardcover, with thick pages and high-quality illustrations. In chain stores you will find “Atlas” for 1600-2200 rubles.
Coffee grinders and Turks
A coffee grinder is more of a gift for a beginner coffee lover. We have several in our catalog – manual and electric (say, from Delonghi).
A Turk is also a good gift. A metal Turk can be engraved with a memorable note.
Coffee
It would seem to be an obvious option, but many people forget about it for some reason. There are dozens of varieties and names of coffee that even experienced coffee lovers have never heard of. It would be good if you presented the gift in a special box, jar or keg. Such a present will definitely be remembered! We have prepared several gift sets with elite varieties for this occasion.
