Height Adjustment Of the Fireplace : Guide

Height adjustment of the fireplace

One of the important parameters when choosing a hearth for the home is the height of the fireplace. This value directly affects the aesthetic perception of the device in the interior, as well as the proportionality of its elements, such as the furnace and the portal. The height of the fireplace is always selected individually. It is selected by the master during the installation of the device or by the designer if the fireplace is built according to an individual design project. Modern stoves-fireplaces are supplemented with the function of adjusting the height above the floor level.

This possibility is provided by the presence of special adjustment bolts placed on the supports or legs of the device. This innovation makes it possible at any moment to raise or lower the fireplace, the height of which from the floor does not suit you. In addition, the adjustment function makes the installation easier, which speeds up the work of the executors and increases the comfort of the customer of the installation.

What can depend on the height of the firebox in terms of distance from the floor? For example, for open hearths made of brick. This value is selected depending on the number of rows of material in the masonry. But when choosing the location of the device, it is important to consider other parameters and norms:

  • with standard placement, the firebox should be at least 30 centimeters away from the floor;
  • if the design of the device provides for the presence of a niche for firewood (for example, a rustic stove), then the height of the firebox can be higher;
  • traditional hearths are placed at a height of 20-30 cm from the floor level. There are no niches for fuel under such equipment, which avoids the need to increase the height of the hearth;
  • if your fireplace is large, it can be installed at a minimum height, almost on the floor;
  • in most cases, the fireplace is installed before the work on arranging the floor is finished, which requires special attention when calculating the height, taking into account the future increase in the height of the base and changing its ratio to the placement of the fireplace slab.

Non-standard solutions regarding the location of fireplaces in terms of height are not always comfortable for perception. So we recommend contacting specialists who will help you choose the ideal point for installing the fireplace, taking into account its parameters and interior features.

How to Choose the Height Of the Fireplace Yourself

The standard fireplace height of 30-40 centimeters from the floor may not be the best solution in some cases. For example, if you chose a device with non-classic parameters or an unusual design. In such situations, we recommend using the simplest method. Create a life-size model of the fireplace (you can use materials and tools at hand). Place it in the planned installation point of the equipment. See how the structure looks from different parts of the room – from the recreation area, dining room, etc. This method can be used in cases where the fireplace is built without prior development of a design project or is installed by a craftsman without experience. Do not forget to take into account that the device will be supplemented with cladding, a mantelpiece, and other parts.

The height of the fireplace portal affects not only the visual perception of the cell as part of the interior. The ease of use of the equipment, as well as the efficiency of its operation, depends on it.

What Should Be Paid Attention to When Installing a Fireplace

The ability to adjust the height of the fireplace with the help of adjustment bolts greatly simplifies the installation of the device. But do not forget about other important aspects of installing such heating equipment:

  • in front of the portal, organize a protrusion that will help hide the defects of the firebox. It should be at least 0.5 cm;
  • the size of the protrusions placed on the sides of the portal is at least 25-30 cm;
  • the pre-furnace sheet, which extends beyond the boundaries of the furnace by 20-30 cm, serves as a protrusion;
  • the back wall of the furnace must be inclined by 20 degrees;
  • the side parts of the firebox are also located under the slope.

It is quite difficult to take into account all aspects of placing a fireplace without having experience with such devices. Do not waste time and effort, especially since it is impossible to guarantee the safety of the equipment during unprofessional installation. Romotop specialists install fireplaces on a turnkey basis – from project development to delivery of the finished object to the customer.
