Are Pebble Watches a Good Option among Smart Watches?
Pebble watches hold an interesting place among smartwatch options, especially in Pakistan. It is maybe the only internationally known line of watches that comes from a Kickstarter. The fact that it is a startup puts it in an odd, complicated position for people in Pakistan.
The reason is that the company that made the original Pebble watch no longer exists. It has, in fact, become absorbed by Fitbit. What that means is that buying this watch is a one-and-done sort of deal. If you don’t like something in the watch, it won’t change. So, it can be debated how good of an idea buying this watch is.
In this article, we will tell you about the features of the Pebble smartwatch, along with its price. So you know what to expect and can make a decision if you should buy one now so many years after its release.
About Pebble Watches
First available publicly in 2013. The Pebble watches are a line of watches that were designed by the Pebble Technology Corporation.
The company raised money for the original watch via a Kickstarter campaign. The campaign ended up raising over ten million Dollars, the most ever raised on the platform at the time.
Around a year later, the Pebble Smartwatch came out. It is still one of the more unique designs in a smartwatch, as we will talk about below.
Pebble Smartwatch
Now let’s talk about the original Pebble Smartwatch in detail.
Design of Pebble Watches
The original Pebble Smartwatch was a very unique-looking enthusiast watch at the time that it came out. It has an interesting meld of retro-looking simplicity and yet a digital elegance to it.
The band that comes along with it is also very understated, which is also something that can be said about the watch overall. For how uniquely shaped the watch is, it probably won’t gather as much attention as you would think.
There are probably more buttons on this watch than any other major watch option out there. We personally think that that is a great thing.
Too many devices are starting to follow the trend started by smartphones of all touch controls, when in reality, on many devices, that just makes life more difficult. And smartwatches are no exception. The tiny screen on a watch can be difficult to navigate through pure touch. Especially when sweaty from exercising or wearing gloves, so the buttons are a welcome addition, in our opinion.
The singular button on the left will take you to the Menu page. While the three different buttons on the right work as up, down, and select buttons.
The display is a monochrome LCD display. Which means it isn’t as bright or sharp as an OLED, but it works fine enough, in our opinion. Don’t expect to be able to view it in direct sunlight, though.
The watch also has 5 ATM water resistance, which means that it should be absolutely fine to wear while showering or swimming, even at the beach. It seems that because of the plastic construction, the developers have tried to make everything else as rock-solid as possible.
Features and Software
When it comes to the features of this watch, they are mostly limited to basic functionality when compared to most watches nowadays. But it must be remembered that this watch is one that came out many years ago at this point.
Something that is interesting about this watch is that there is a decent community of people making third-party apps for the Pebble watch online. Which makes this watch more usable than it may have originally been.
The watch is able to send you notifications from virtually any kind of app you could think of, with the ability now to send pre-written replies to messages directly from the watch itself. You can even get weather updates pushed directly to the watch as well. And there is even Google Maps integration at this point.
The bad side of all this is that there is no fitness monitoring, something found in practically every watch nowadays, at least at some level. It is important to remember, as stated previously, that this is definitely an older watch, so some of the modern features cannot be expected.
Current Pebble Watch Price in Pakistan 2024
Let’s talk about the pebble watch price in Pakistan. Considering this is a decently old watch at this point, it is hard to pinpoint a specific price, and most retailers will have it listed for surprisingly varying prices.
But the first thing that you should know about buying this watch is that you will only find the Pebble watch online on secondary marketplaces. Simply because, as we stated above, the company has been dissolved and become a part of Fitbit tech.
But for the most part, the pebble watch price in Pakistan in 2024 currently revolves around 5,000 to 12,000 rupees, depending on the seller.
Closing Thoughts about Pebble Watches
Buying the Pebble watch online is an interesting proposition that will mostly depend on how willing you are to ignore the fact that this is an older watch with limited functionality and no additional support from the developer. We would say that if you like the watch as is, only then should you think about buying this watch.
